A chcquo for £10 was received yesterday by the sooretary of tiho Hospital Board (Mr. J. Ooylo), the money to bo applied to a fund to supply films for the Patlio homo kinematograph recently presented to the.Children's Hospital by Mrs. W. A. Caminer. The thief who relieved Mr. P. Westbury, of Taita, of cheques, eto., valued at £30, at a recent auction sale, had not up to last night been "interviewed" by tho local police, ■ but, as tho numbers of the cheques wero known, payment was' at once stopped, and tlio haul may not bo so satisfactory as the thief at first supposed. At last night's annual meeting of tho Now Zealand Academy of Fino Arts, the President (Mr. H. M. Gore) said that tho Minister for Internal Affairs (the Hon. H. D. Bell) had decided that the now National Gallery should bo established on the sito now occupied by tho General Assembly Library. Tho gallery would be combined with tho National Museum. Mr. Gore expressed the thanks of ,tho Academy to tho Government for much assistance and sympathy in its work. A big schemo of improvement is (says our Auckland correspondent) to bo carried out on tho Auckland Bowling Club gre<m,_ and the club will then bo provided with more commodious and handsome buildings than probably thoso of any similar club in the Dominion. Tho last meeting of tho Wellington branch of tho Engine Drivers', Firemen's and Gleaners' Association passed tho following resolution: "That this branch of the E.F.C.A. placcs oil record its apSreciation of the action of tho Tlioni--011 branch of tho A.S.R.S. in protesting against the action of their Executive Council for presonting ,i countor-peti-tion to Parliament to our association's petition for recognition.
