A RANGER'S POWER.

INTERESTING POINT RAISED. Whether an Acclimatisation Socioty ranger must produco iiis warrant before exercising his powers was argued before the Chief Justice here oil Saturday (says our Palmcrstou North correspondent). It was au appeal by the Taihapo ranger against tho decision of Mr. Page, S.M. Tho facts were that the ranger, seeing two men driving through Tailiapc, and suspecting the trap contained game, called upon them to stop. Instead, they drove off, but 110 pursued, and climbcd into the trap. Mr. Cooper, instructed by Mr. Leonard Tripp (president of tho Wellington Acclimatisation Society) appeared for appellant, and Mr. D. Hogg (Wanganui) was for respondents. Mr Cooper said it was not oven necessary for respondent to know tlio appellant was a ranger, his powers under the Act being absolute. His Honour -. "It goes further, and says any person aiding the ranger does not require a warrant." -Mr. Hogg denied that the ranger's warrant conveyed all the powers 01 a policeman. A policeman's warrant was 011 paper, indicating it need not be carried about, but a ranger's was on parchment, so that when carried about it would not wear out. Decision was reserved.
