UNIVERSITY MATCH. CANTERBURY BEATS WELLINGTON Chrlstqhurch, August 24. • ■ Tho annual match between Canterbury College and Victoria College (Wellington) was played at Lancaster Park ' to-day. The game provided a really good exhibition, and the ball was thrown about in good style. Tile game ended in a win for Canterbury College by 23 points (two converted tries and threo tries and a : potted goal) to 11 points (a converted try and two tries), MATCHES ELSEWHERE. Auckland, August 24. Tho weather, with the exception of one shower, was fine yesterday when tho final or tho senior Rugby championship between Marist Brothers and Ponsonby was played. A challenge shield match was plaved , at Waipiikurau on Saturday when Pirates defeated Waipukurau by four points to nil. In tho junior championship Celtic beat Rovers by 3 points to nil. A match between Napier and Hastings "has boons" resulted in a draw/ tho scores being 3 all. CALIFORNIA TRIP. ATKINSON UNABLE TO GO. Atkinson, tlio West Coast forward who was selected to go to California with tho New Zealand Rugby team has notified tho selectors that ho is unable to make the trip. Tho question of fill-' ing tho vacancy is being considered by tho selectors, and it is epected that ail announcement will bo made to-day.
