A NEW TORPEDO.

The Japanese battle-cruiser Kongo, which has just been completed at Barrow, is conveying to Japan 48 Whitehead torpedoes. Tho torpedoes avo propelled by a new motive power, and will travel twelve thousand yards at the rate of 48 miles an hour. Tho United States has placed a large order for torpedoes. The ordinary 18-inch Whitehead torpedo has an initial speed of 40 knots, and an effective range of 2000 yards.
