MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
.Saturday's sitting of tlio Magistrate s Court was presided over by Mr. W. I*. Riddell, S.M. A plea of not guilty was entered by John Gosling when charged with tho theft of a bicycle valued at £8, tho property of Fred. Hobbs. Accused's story—that bo purchased tho evele from a man named J. }} atkms, who worked for the Gear Meat Company at Petone —was disbelieved by the magistrate, who imposed a fine of 40s. and costs 45., with tho option of seven days' imprisonment. ' For insobriety George Thompson wa» convicted and discharged. On a cliargo of theft of a watch, the property ot John Caldwell, ho was remanded until Monday for sentence. , . For committing a certain act Minnie Brown was fined 405., with tho alternative of seven days' imprisonment.
