When the Estimates were being considered in Committee in tho House of Representatives last evening, Mr. Payne, member for Grey Lynn,' asked leave to invito tho Prime Minister to produco a letter, which lie mentioned in a recent debate, in reference to a pledge given by Sir. Payne. Tho Chairman of Committees (Mr. Malcolm) ruled that the subject must be Taised when tho Speaker ;was in tho chair.
Senior-Scrgcan't Dart, who, after a conn";on of several Tiionths with the Auckpolicfl, will lcavo to-night on transfer to Duncdin, was last night presented by the members of the local staff with a 'travelling-bag and rug. During his brief stay in Auckland, Sergeant Dart has proved himself a particularly able officer (says our Auckland correspondent), and his work in. coaching otlior officers for the police examinations has been highly appreciated by his comrades. Mr. V. W. Ivonnoy. at present employed by a Wellington firm, was last night selected from amongst a number of applicants to fill the position of clerk in the Auckland City Valuers' office. Messrs.'E.
