TECHNICAL COLLGEE DANCE
Tho annual dance of tho mechanic students of tho Wellington Technical College was held in St. l'eter's Schoolroom last evoning, and was an exceedingly wellarranged and enjoyable event, 'l'he hall had been decorated on quite original lines, much artistic skill having been expended by tho students in the carrying out of their scheme of decoration. A hexagonal-shaped canopy of red and white drapery had been orocted about tho oentral gasoliers, and from tho different angles were carried streamers of the same two colours to the sides of tho room. Lit up by tiny coloured electric lights which had been specially installed for the occasion, a charming result was obtained. A deep frieze of lycopodium had been carried round tho walls, tho effect being very light and dainty, and mirrors draped with red were placed at intervals all round room. Over tho stago tho letter W.T.C. stood out in coloured lights, in tho midst of ropes of lycopodium, and tho stage itself had been decorated and comfortably furnished for tho use of those not dancing. l'he chaperones present were: Mrs. Earnshaw, wearing black satin and ninon; Mrs. M'Vicar, in black satin, and blackand white cloak; Mrs. Graham, black satin veiled with ninon; Mrs. Johnson, black oharmeuse, relieved with cream laco; and Mrs. Robinson, cream 6atin with an overdress of cream lace. Thompson, and • Freeman. The joint secretaries who, with their committee were responsible for the success of the, evening, were Mr. C. Thompson and Mr. Dixon, Mr. La Trobe, the principal of tho college, was present. A feature of tho evening was tho rainbow dance, in which all tho lights were lowered, save for the coloured shafts that were thrown upon the dancers from an apparatus upon the stago. The offect was very picturesque, and somewhat ghostly, too. Similar, but without the coloured light, was the twilight dance, which was also upon the programme.
