OPPOSITION LEADERSHIP.
DECISION DEFERKEL. • Extreme is being observed by the members of' the Oipposition regarding tlx© leadership of their f>a.rty, and the result of the decision to invite Sir Joseph Ward to accept the position. Sir Joseph Ward returned from tho south yesterday morning, and was in his -place in- this House during the afternoon and ovming. •No official, information has been given as ■to whether lis (has:.been.asked to take tHe leadership. _ It ia stated, however, that the invitation has .beem extended in .the terms of the resolution roported yesterday, .and. that he. has defenredi his answer.
Sir Joseph Ward, on being questioned last evening, said that ho had no statement to make on the subject. Mr. Russell, who continued to act as the principal leader of tho' .party in-the House yestferday, was equally uncommunicative when seen late last Bight. "Thexo is nothing for publication," ho said. '
