(Trom Our Sieoial Correspondent.) As an indication of tho mildness of tho 6eason, it may he mentioned that wattlo trees have been in full bloom in this district for several weeks past. It is reported that a Masterton resident will benefit to the extent of several thousand pounds as beneficiaro under tho will of a relativo, in Australia. No new cases of scarlet fover ha.vobeen reported in this district for the last week or two. Generally speaking, bho distriot is in'a very healthy condition. A case for tho maintenance of a child was set down'for hearing in the Magistrate's Court to-day. Counsel announced that the case had been settled, the parties concerned having tliat morning been married. His Worship, in striking out tho case, remarked that tihis appeared 1 to be a "satisfactory settlement." Counsel replied that Mr. Justice Cooper appeared to hold a different view on the subject.

The Masterton Harriers held a successful run from tho residence of Mr. F. Hood, on the Upper Plain, yesterday. Tho event was won by Mr. Georgo Hood.' A miniature rifle-sliooting match was fired here last night between teams representing Masterton, Mauriceville, andlhuraua. The matoli was easily won. by Masterton, the scores being as follow: —Masterton, 354 points; Mauriceville, 323; Ihuraua, 314. , t _ r , - A number of members of tho Masterton Gun Club competed in a <£50 claypigeon shoot at Martinborough yesterday. TTie first and second prizes were divided by J. Cave and W. Harris (Martinborough). Two sweepstakes were subsequently shot off, one of which was won by D. M'Calmont, of Masterton. ■ A very pleasant social was held last evening by members of the Excelsior and other hockey clubs of tilio town.
