"CLASS DISTINCTION."
GARRISON OFFICERS' CLUB.' In the House of Representatives yesterday, Mr. J. Payne (Grey Lynn) gave notice to ask the Minister for Defence: (1) Whether stops are being taken to compel the officers of the Wellington Garrison Officers' Club to conform to orders issued in connection with admitting officers of the cadets section of the servioo to the club; and is it true that the officers of this club held a meeting and blackballed an applicant for admission to the club after the Officer Commanding the District had issued orders that no balloting was to take, place, and had ruled that every officer in the service had the right of membership in the club without any ballot being taken? (2) Also, will the Minister for Dofenco insist upon all officers of the Wellington Garrison being members of the club, and will he prohibit any other club of officers being formed, and any officer appearing .in uniform at any club or'function unless he is a member of the regimental Officers' Club held in tho drill hall buildings? Mr. Payne adds the following note:—From the information conveyed to the member for Grey Lynn, it is apparent that the officers of the club are desirous of excluding officers of the cadet corps from becoming members of the Wellington Garrison Officers' Club, and so setting up class distinctions within a service which is compulsory upon all.
