A NEW DISCOVERT. llilk, without uiica-obss, guaranteed pure and without loss of quality, cau lie had in Liverpool, where a medical man, Dr. Beatie, has proclaimed a reinarkablo discovery to the world. This is tho purport of information received by Mr. Trefle, Minister for Lands in Mew South Wales. If Dt. Beatie is as good as his word, the discovery will rank with the introduction of antitoxins and the world of Pasteur, as a medical and scientific advance. llr. Trefle said last week that he had tho information from very reliable private sources. Eighteen months ajo Dr. Beatie, of the Liverpool University, was experimenting witli a view- to finding a better method of sterilising milk than the ordinary means of pasteurisation, with tho result, the .Minister's informant states, that he has been entirely successful. The plan is to submit the milk to a severe electrical shock, which kills or destroys flfl per cent, of the bacteria in tho milk, without in any way altering tho quality and substance of the milk as an article of food. Tho remaining 1 per cent, of bacteria, escaping tlia shock, constitute but a harmless, non-pathogenic percentage. No fewer than 120 separate tests have been carried out, and all are alleged to be successful. These test qualified to speak hold that ono of the most prolific means of introducing iilnovs to the human family is found in the milk supply.
