OTAKI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.; OTAKI. Jfiss R. Ransfell and Mrs. J. Meads, both well-known Natives, died yesterday, the former at Manakau, and tho latter at Otaki. . Great improvements are at present being effected at t.he racecourse, in view of next month's meeting. Ihcro is a vast improvement in the building accommodation, while the track proper is ieceiving much attention. It is understood that a movement will 'oon be put on foot relative to securing a public hall for both JVaikanae and Reikorangi. ' Te Horo has already subscribed a large amount towards a building, which it is hoped will shortly bo eroded. ~ . , ... Jlr. J. Johnson, of Jtasterton, lias bought a farm at To Iloro, and intends to go in for dairying. Jlr. Isaae Ran.field, of Manakau, has leased his farm, while Jtr. Adams, of_ Paraparaumu, has decided to give up dairying. Whitebait have now made their appearance in the Otaki River. The present spring is claimed bv old residents to bo tho earliest for fifteen years. '
