At the conclusion of the C.J.C. National meeting, Mr. J. F. Jl'Kelvie quitted Coronetted to one of 'the Messrs. Rutherford. Tho chestnut gelding went all to pieces at Riccarton, but ho should como right aftor a. spoil, and then would quickly repay his new 'owner for tho 150 guineas said to have been laid out on hinu Given a track to his liking he would win a double at any of the southern meetings.
H. Hickey is not leaving for Sydney this weok, but will go across by next week's boat. It is quito on tho cards that tho 'chaser Dorando will form ono of his team for the A.J.C. Spring moeting.
A rather interesting stud item comes from Sydney. It is to the effect that Solution has foaled itwins to tho imported Enrlston.
Weights for the Marton. meeting are duo on Friday.
F. Tilley returned from Riccarton yesterday,, and went on to Fordell by tho Main-Trunk express. He has Kanikn, Lady Volga, and Princess Moutoa engaged at the Matfton meeting next month.
i J. H. I'rosser has made a good recovery from his attack of pneumonia, and will return to Porirua to-day. He will uo unable to take an active part in the training of his team for some time, but hopes to bo able to go to Wanganui at tho end of next month.
Mr. W. Davies will probably send his aire Feild Battery to the_lfei lding district this year. Ho has received many oners of support from the district named, where sinco tho demise of Sylvanite good sires nre at a premium.
The Boniform—Carissima fitly, which ■brought top price at tho Bushy Park sale of yearlings in November, has Mi far not boon handled. At present she is running in tho paddock at Fordell, and as she, is growing F. Tilley has, with the concurrence of her owner (Mr. W. Duncan), decided to give hor evory chance, and sho may not race as a two-year-old.
The Achilles—Chinwag filly, ' and thoMartian—Success filly, in Mr. Hobtrs's stables at Riccarton, are both doing well, and appear to. be as forward as any of the juveniles trained i«t Riccarton. Tho Treadmill —Madowla colt in the'Chokebore stable is somewhat small, but Bon Revo's brother, iu R. O'Donnell's stables, is tin ideal sort, and riiould be able to gallop fast. -
The well-known ex-Aucklaud horseman, G..K. Phillips, who has been riding in Sydney for . some years past, met with a painful accident early this month, while exercising a horse at Rand wick. The animal smashed into a post with him, and ■I'hillips in consequenco sustained a broken leg. He is at present confined in. St. Vincent's Hospital.
J. W. Lowe has another addition to his team in the 6hapo of the Hierarcli—Peace filly. The youngster will racb in tho colours of a .well-Known local sportsman.
G. Price intends to givo the New Zealand Cup candidate Bronze a race at Marton,'and he will also start thero the 'three-year-old filly Bertrada. Ermengarde, who was muscle sore for tho greater part of last season, will most likely have her first race at Wanganui next month.
"Terlinga" in tlio "Australasian" says: Evidently I was preniaturo in. pict ng the New Zealaud hurdle-racer M.iiter 'Paul for tho Steeplechasers' Flat I! ice ou. the first day of the meeting. I was not "well armed," as tho late Mr. O'Halloran would have put it. Master Paul drifted out of the calculations in tho flat race, but he started favourite for the ICuowsley Steeplechase, and made hacks of those opposed to him. Master Paul (who has carried 12st. 41b. in a hiivdle race at Dunedin) simply _ went to_ the front, and 6preadeagled his field. l.ney never saw the way he went. Perhaps brilliant jumping does it, but it looks as though The Miser did something «-iien he gave Master .Paul Slb,..and a beating in the Steeplechasers' Flat Race.
