GOVERNMENT ENGINEERS.
A meeting of the council of the Institute of Local Government Engineers of New Zealand was held yesterday at their office, Marine Engineers' Building, Aitken Street. The president, Mr. S. Jickell, occupied the chair, and Messrs. Rowthwaite, Miiir (vice-presidents), Basham, Wright, Harding, Dillon, Roche, Armstrong, Maginess, and Williams were also present. A great deal of business'ot interest to tho institute was dealt with, and among other matters, it was decided to hold tho annual conference in Auckland during March, 1911. Tho matter of obtaining incorporation and general recognition was exhaustively discussed, and a legislative committee set up to prepare a Bill to be presented to Parliament during the present session. A committee was also appointed to further revise examination papers for the proposing members. The matter of securing* an official organ was also dealt with satisfactorily. Superannuation for officers' of local bodies was also discussed, and a deputation of the whole council waited upon tho Counties Conference now sitting, and made a strong plea for their assistance in bringing down somo equitable scheme to apply to the whole of the local bodies in New Zealand. The depytation received a most favourable reception from tho conference. Twclvo new members were elected, and a number of applications declined, and others held over for further inquiry.
