SUGAR EXCISE DUTIES.
FEDERAL GOVERNMENTS LOSS. ByTeleeraph—Proas Asioclalion —GoryTjghfc (Rec. August 20, 8.15 p.m.) Melbourne, August 20. Mr. L. E. Groom (Federal Minister for Customs), replying to Mr. G. F. Tndor's ■allegation with reference to the Government's loss 011 the sugar txciso in connection with the proclamation of the Sugar Boiinty and Sugar Excise Abolition' Act, blamed th© late Government— of which Mr. Tudor was Minister for Customs —for making 110 provisions to meet the difficulty.
It is understood that tho Government is introducing a Bill to provide for the payment of excise duty 011 all sugar that was in bond when the excise was repealed.
