AN AUCKLAND DISPUTE.

PUBLIC INQUIRY SUGGESTED. The Minister for Justice is to be asked by Mr. J. Payne, M.P., in the House of Representatives what steps ho lias takcli to have an inquiry mado into the charges mado against the Auckland firm of Blomfieild and Parr, solicitors, by one A. T. Allen., nurseryman, of Avondialo, Auckland, wliicfh charges were detailed in full in ' a typewritten letter from Mr. Allen to the Minister for Justice, dated February 15, 1913. Mr. Payne appends the following noto to his question"Mr. Allen is said to be the beneficiary under the will of one William Brooks, and Mr. Allen alleges that on an occasion when Mr. A'llon was interriewiu-g Mr. Parr, as a solicitor, in tho office of Parr and Blomfield, Mr. Parr snatched papers relating to the estate out of Mr. Allen's band and, refused to giro them up. . Mr. Allen gem on to state, in the copy of the letter mentioned herein as having been sent to thio Minister for Justice, that Mr. Parr foreclosed o'j tho mortgage to which tho snatched papers Tola-ted, and obtained tho money value of the security and then demanded half of the money from Mr. Allen before lie would part with amy of it. Mr. Allen then goes on to ivlmto a series of events following on the above, which po t.n point tlie fact that Hie lawyers would not act against one another. The mover is of the opinion that tlie rase calls verv ur,gently for a public inquiry, and shall'be .-pleased to hear, in the Miwster'c reply, thait he will recommend the Government to have tlie matter properly inquired .into in tlie interests of common ordinary justice."

Tho high prico of fruit in New Zealand, it is generally admitted, is due at least in part to the high freights charged on the railways on fruit from overseas. Twice recently in tho House of Representatives, the Minister for Railways lias been asked to consider Cook Island fruit, as Now Zealand fruit, and to carry it t-t the same low freights as the locally-grown fruit. Mr. Hcrries stated in the House yesterday that the difficulty in the way of making this concession was that Tahiti fruit came in tho samo steamers as tho Cook Inlands fruit. If the importers oould bo relied upon not to represent Tahiti fruit as Cook Island fruit, perhaps tlie low freights might be allowed, but until the Railway 'Department were assured that a scheme could be devised to ensure this, ho would not run tho risk of carrying foreign-grown fruit 011 the railways at the low freights.
