BURNING QUESTION.

IN UNIVERSITY REFORM. The proposals for tho reconstitution of tho University,' as recently discussed by the Victoria College Council of Convocation, wore montioncd by Mr. Fleming at last night's meeting of tho council. Ho said that the Senato had been considering the matter and in January last they 'appointed a-committp3 in Auckland to go into tho "question;'" He thought that in courtesy tho Senate should havo consulted the various bodies. Instead, the individual opinions of the graduates, had been asked oh three schemes which'were put before them. Convocation had met in Wellington once and had referred tho matter to a committee, and they would meet again in a short time. He thought tho Coiiego Council should have been consulted; He merely wished to ask the chairman now if he had officially received any communication in regard to the blatter. ' Tho chairman: I got it only as a graduate. Mr. Fleming: I got it only as a graduate and -not ns chairman of the Council of Convocation. I thought tho council might consider tho matter and take some steps. The point was neither the council nor convocation as bodies had been consulted, and they should have been .consulted. Mr. W. Ferguson: In other words the Senate is snubbing both the Council and Convocation ? Mr. Fleming said he had spoken to Sir Robert 'Stout about the matter. He did not think it was tho Senate. Sir Robert Stout said that they should have received it. . Mr. R-. M'Callum: The 'graduates have lietitioned Parliament and their petition has been Teferred to tho Education Committee.

Mr. C. B. Morison: For n Royal Commission ?

Air. M'Callum: Yes, for a "Royal Commission.

Air. Maginnity: Put it on the Order Paper for next meeting. In the mcaiitimo w-* may receiye something.

Mr. Fleming: My object in mentioning it was to bring it before members. Mr. .Maginnity's suggestion was asrreed to.
