WORKERS' COMPENSATION.
SUGGESTED AMENDMENTS IN LAW. 'A' question was asked tho Primo Minister in the House of Representatives yesterday in which it iras suggested that tho Workers' Compensation. Act should Ijo amended to permit workers of sixty years of age and over to insure against accident, and to provide for tho payment of the full amount of compensation in the caso of a.'fatal accident. Tho Hon. W. F. Massey replied: The matter of permitting workers of sixty yeai*s of age and over to insure against accident is not nnder tho control of the Government; it is ono for arrangement between the insurance officers and the employers desiring ;to insure thoir risks against accident compensation. All workers, irrespective of their., age, are, however, entitled to the compensation provided for under tho Act. In regard to tlw suggested amendment providing for payment of full compensation in the caso of fatal accident without regard to dependents, I do not think tho -benefitsthat, would be obtained by such an amendment would warrant tho increased expenditure that would presumably be entailed. The Act provides for a sum not exceeding .420 to cover medical and funeral expenses, and whero there are no dependents no further provision appears to be necessary.
