Three young men will appear at the next sitting of the Magistrate's Court on a chaTge of having wilfully damaged a billiard table belonging to Mr. Geo. Sykes - . 'The annual meeting of the Petone Defence Rifle Club was held at Lower Hutt last night. Air. J. D, M'Lachlan (deputy president) presided. Tho report Showed that tha year had been most successful, the championship shield being won for the seoond conseoutive timo by Rifleman W. BaMinger. 'During the season the club tried tho experiment of having tlireo dlosses; aaid finding tho present system favourable, tho committed recommonded tho club to ad'hare td it. llhe shooting of tho Club's A team in inter-cliub matches was excellent, tho team winning alii the dnterclub matches fired. Thanks were extended to tho following for donating trophies: Messrs. W. Grace, "S. V. jßurridge, R. Dwyar, J. Ingram, R. King, Clendon Bros., T. M. Wilford, M.P./F. Jenness, H. Palmer, C. Bird. Taylor, C.T., prejjding over the meeting, which was well attended. After the business of flie lodge had been transacted, Bro. T.. Townsend, P.G.E.S., wlio'was responsible for the evening, delivered a lecture entitled, "Microbes." During the evening items were contributed by Sis. Brown, Bro. T. Townsend, Bro. J.' Roso, and Sis. E. Parker. A vote of thanks was passed i to' Bro. Townsend for Jais interesting lecsecretary of the Norma'ndalo Progressive Association has'invited Mr. '1, .Townsend to address a meeting in tho sdiool on Sunday, • August 21, on the temperance question.
