Escott, member for I'ahiatua, asked tlio Government whether, seeing that to many hotelkeepers aro ooerced by high vents and monopoly conditions into breaking llio licensing law in their emlenvour to pay the blowers' exactions, tlio Government will make it mandatory that all leases of hotels shall lequiro the sanction of the local Licensing Committee. Yesterday tlio Hon. A. L. Herdman (Minister for Justice) replied: To carry out 'the suggestion of tlio honourable gentleman would roquiro legislation, and when any amendment of tlio licensing law is being brought forward the matter will reccivo careful consideration.
