In tlte course of a conversation with a prominent pastoralist a Dominion representative inquired what prqspeots there are for increasing the l)cef supplies of ■the country. Tho reply was that the ' question could not bo answered .definitely oft'-hantli...Mu. almost every branch, of Tural. activity, particularly wher# stock ■are, concerned, the products of tho farm 'are finding ready market at good prices: ,In fact, tho demand is increasing. During recent, yenrs tho dairy cow has ousted the bullock from a larso area of tho best ■fattening country, while tho demand : for I mutton and wool has hardened up tho ! sheep industry. The demand for beef, "however, both for export and local purposes, ho continued, is such that farmers might Well consider thei advisability ,of devoting'more attention to producing ?beef cattle. With the prospect of still .''higher prices abroad than thosp at proIsont ruling, it is not likely that there jwill Ik any decrease in exportation.
