TURKEY SITS TIGHT.

ON ADRIANOPLE. "AWAITS FUTURE CALMLY." RUSSIAN CRUISERS SAIL. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright (Rec. August 19, 11.5 p.m.) London, Aaigust 19. Reuter's correspondent states that Turkey's decision to hold Adrianople is unalterable. Tho Government's ■ very existence is bound up in the fate of the city. Although there is no attempt to minimise the gravity of the situation, Turkey awaits the future calmly. Turkish advices state that Enver Bey commands 400,000 troops. Besides defending Adrianople, he is contemplating extensive operations to the westward of the Maritza River. Tho extension of the Turkish occupation of Thrace to the west bank of the River Maritza is regarded as indicating the existence of a Turko-Greek understanding, Greece preferring tho Turks to the Bulgarians with a view to safeguarding ecclesiastical and educational privileges. The withdrawal of two Russian cruisers from tho Bosphorus is supposed to indicate an admonition to Turkey that tho Powers' will must be respected, and to signify that Russia's desiro is to co-oper-ate with the other Powers, specially with 'Franco and England, in maintaining the Ottoman Asiatic Empire and European Empire No'je. i The journal "Jeune Turc" believes that tho departure of the cruisers is connected with the Sevastopol manoeuvres. The Grand Vizier, Said Pasha, denies that the Turks are advancing on Lumuljina or Dedeagatch, but admits the occupation of the right bank of the Maritza and of tho Demotika. ("Times"—Sydney "Sun" Special Cables.) Bukarest, August 18. It is stated that Royal betrothals foreshadowing a great Pan-Slav Alliance will shortly bo annoiuioed. They are those of Princess Elizabeth, daughter of the King of Rumania, to the Crown Princ© of Greece, of Princess Tatiana, daughter of tho Tsar, to Princo Charles, soil of the Crown Prince of Rumania, aud of Princess Olga, a daughter of the Tsar, to Princo Alexander, heir-apparent to tho Throne of Servia.
