FEATHERSTON ITEMS.
Mr. A. Campbell Pearce ha 9 been elected a member of the Featherston Countj Council to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Mr. A. Hannay. A public meeting of ratepayers was held on Monday evening for the purpose of considering tho proposals of the Town Board for effecting improvements to th«, Town Hall, by means of a loan of -£500, which tho ratepayers frill be asked to sanction on Wednesday. A resolution was passed requesting tho board to postpone the poll and substitute a more comprehensive scheme. At a special meeting of tho Town Board, held subsequently, it was decided to take tho poll as arranged, on Wednesday. The board will be guided by the voting as to the desirability of' putting forward nn extension of the present plans for enlarging the hall. • Tho property, "Newstead," has again changed hands, Jlr. L. Yelvcrton having purchased it from tho cxecutors of tho late Jlr. P. Wills. HACKING COUGH DRIVEN AWAY.
