It is semi-officially stated that after tho Bulgarian troops had evacuated Seres tho Greek inhabitants, under the Archbishop, formed a local militia, which pillaged Mussulmans, Jews, arid Bulgarians. Upwards of two hundred Bulgarians, including a number of women and children, were imprisoned. Subsequently, on the arrival of the Greek troops, tho Archbishop visited and reassured tho prisoners. Then civilians and soldiers entered tho prison and perpetrated a massacre. Only one man, a Bulgarian, escaped. Tho Greeks fired tho building, then photographed the mutilated corpses, exhibiting the photographs to tho Consuls as those of tho corpses of Greeks massacred by tho Bulgarians. A similar ruse was adopted at Mcnelik, where Greek soldiers killed and mutilated a Bulgarian priest, exhibiting it as tho corpse of the Greek Bishop of Doirtui, who was at the time in a Bulgarian mon- • nstery. MELBOURNE GREEKS' DONATION TO SUFFERERS. Melbourne, August 16. The local Greek community has receivol a cablegram from tho Queen of Greece, acknowledging a donation of J2500 for the sulferers by the war.
