A Golden Wedding. Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Rennard celebrated tlieir golden wedding on Monday, having been married at Goodwood in 18G3. Mr. Konnard was tho first white male tarn in Otago. His parents arrived from England via Australia in 1840. In tlio year following Mr. Konnard was tarn at Waikouaiti. Ho resided in that neighbourhood with his parents umtil his marriage, when ho set up house for himself in tho same locality. Later ho residod at Shag Valley and Goodwood. In 1875 ho moved with his family to Waimato, and with the ■ xceplion of a brief rosidonco at Auckland, Mr.
and Mrs. Konnard havo lived thero over sineo. Mrs. Kennard arrived in Dunodin with her parents in tho Ajax in 1818. Mr. and Mrs, Kennard reared a family of 11 Children, and havo 29 grandchildren. A Handkerchief Tea. Miss Daisy Suckling, whoso marringe is to tako placo shortly, was tlio guest of honour at a "handkorchief" tea given by Mrs. Baldey and Mrs. Butler, of Tho Terraco. Songs contributed by Madame Groomo and Miss Batten, and recitations by Master Leonard Power were much enjoyed by the guests. An amusing competition was won by Miss Vickernmn. Mrs.
Baldey wore pastel blue charmeuse with gold embroideries, and Mrs. Butler was in a nnVy tailored costume. Tho guest of tho afternoon was in grey, with a violet hat and black fox furs. A Euchre Party. The ladies in chargo of the refreshment stall in connection with tho forthcoming Boys' Institute Bazaar are actively bestirring themselves, and are organising a series of entertainments for tho benefit of their stall, of which Mrs. J. P. Luke, the Mayoress, is convener. On Thursday evening a ouchro party, arranged by Miss Bock (secretary of tho stall), Miss dark, Miss' M'Lcan (treasure)]'), Miss Powell, mid Miss Sidey, for tho bpnefit of t'heir department, was held at tho residence of Mrs. Wilson, of Mein.Street, who most/kindly placed her house at their disposal. Many pcoplo wero present, and fully twenty-two tables wero used for play, somo of tlio games being very exciting. Miss Philp was the winner of tlio Indies' prize, and Mr. Boil of tlio gentlemen's. A competition, bringing in the names of streets, provided nVuflh merriment, as well as much bewilderment. The drawing-room and dining-room were given up to the euchre, and wero decorated with beautiful spMng flowers, while tho tables in tlio supper room wero arranged with primroses and whito and yellow narcissi. Mrs. Wilson nild Mi's. .T. P. Luko received the
guests. The former woro a gown of ivory cropo do chino, and Mrs. Liiko was in blaok velvet. Miss Book Was in palo blue; Miss Clark in floral ninon; Miss M'Leall in heliotrope; Miss Powell, a dark velvet frock; Miss Sidfry in black velvet. Biblo School Union., Mr. R. A. Wright, president of tlio Biblo School Union, ocoupied. tho chair ftt a mooting which was held 'in tho manager's room of St. John's ChuTch, Tho secretary's report showed that all tho examiners but 0110 had sent in their results, and those showed a great improvement on late years. The prize-list promised to bo olio of the biggest in tho history of tho union. His Excellency tho Governor had consented to distribute tho prizes at a meeting to bo hekl on Sop-, tomber 12. Owing to Mr. C. 0. Jorgenson, the secretary of the International Biblo Heading Association, having left tho city, ho has resicned his office. The secretary . was directed to send Mr, Jorgenson a let-' tor thanking him for liis services during' the past four years.. A letter -was received from Mr. Archibald suggesting that tho union should join with the Australian schools in arranging for a visit of two ladies from England to give demonstrations of tho modern methods of Sun-
day-school teaching. Tile matter was allowed to stand over pending further information. Two country schools wroto Asking that future examinations should bo held on Saturday afternoon instead of Friday evening. It was resolved to discuss tliis proposal at tho Easter Convention. Y.W.C.A. Notes, Tho servico at tho Young Women's Christian Association to-morrow afternoon will bo conducted by tho Rev. A. T. Brainsby, who will also give tho address. It will bo open to all young womon, and any girls away from home will be welcome at fho tea and sooial following. Miss Helen P. Barnes has returned to Sydney after visiting t'lio associations of Queensland as national organising secretary. Sho is cxpeoted to arrivo in New Zealand at tho end of this month or early In September,. and will take tho lead in tho financial enmpaign at present being planned in the Auckland Y.M.C.A.

The room was decorated with flags and spring flowers, nnd furnished (is a drawing-room. Songs wero sung by Mrs. A. S. Gyles and Alias Lonsdale; a violin solo was played In- Mrs. Malcolm, and piano solos by Mrs. Chapman nnd the Misses Gnskin nnd E. Downes. An interesting competition was won by Mrs. Chas. Morris nnd Mrs. Howard .tones.

Officers' Ball at Napier, On Wednesday evening the second oanwal tall of tho HawkeVßay District Utficons' Club was held in the Garrison Hail. Napier, it was a complete success, and visiters were present lrom several of tho outlying districts.
