Syndicalist meetings held throughout the country lmvo decided to support a. general strike if necessary. i'ivo hundred arrests havo been, in ado at Milan, where serious rioting followed the declaration of a strike by the Syndicalists. Thoso arrested arc chiefly dangerous characters. This action has prevented llio disorder from spreading. A majority of tho working classes do not favour tho Syndicalists, but aro forced to abstain from work owfiig to the violent coercive methods adopted by tho minority. Many of tho masters preferred closing their factories to exposing them to attacks. Troops are concentrating at Milau, and occupying slrategio points in order to provent tho strikers massing. A thousand strikers with criminal antecedents havo been, imprisoned. Somo of the tramcars are running. They, aro strongly escorted. Tho authorities aro ensuring continuation of tho bread and gas services. Milan, August 11. An overwhelming force of troops, including artillery, hold strategic points, isolating the strikers and ' workmen's quarters. A thousand persons havo been arrested. STRIKE COLLAPSING. (Rec. August 12, 11.10 p.m.) Rome, August 12. Tho strikers at Milan aro gradually resuming work. An attempt to spread tho strike to other centres failed.
