NAVY LEAGUE NOTES.
v ' ! ""A 'liavsd"officer, "now in" England, and v formerly in command of a. ship in Australasian waters, writes to the Wellington branch secretary of the Navy League (Mr. Cecil Palmer) in reference to "the great time" that New Zealand Rave its gift battle-cruiser. Ho says:—"As regards the part that New Zealand has played in naval defence, everyone recognises the public spirit nnd patriotism of , New Zealanders; and, as far as I can judge, the great body of naval'.'officers, rccognise her notion as tlic' only right course to take. No doubt the Australian action, appeals to the .sentimental side, and that is what has to'. ho guarded against. Keep your league'to what you mention, 'One all-powerful Navy, under ; one control.'," Another post captain, who also was very helpful to tho Navy Leaguo when in New Zeal mid waters, writes in a similar strain. He says: "I am very glad to see the New Zealand presented to the nation by your country without restrictions. I see that she has had a most interesting cruise, and that enormbns crowds have visited her. I have no doubt that school teachers and all tho boys and girls and their parents, whom your league has been so 'instrumental in educating in naval matters, and the importance of maintaining our naval supremacy, have been on board."
The headmaster of one of the Wellington suburban m&oo! branches of the Nary League, writing to the local hem. secretary. says: "I liave to with gratitude the very handsome illuminated copy of Captain Scott's last message so generously donated by your league. I have hung it in a conspicuous place, whpre I hope it will be an inspiration to our boys and girls. Its jnoral benefits, in my opinion, will .bo incalculable." (Over two dozen of the Scott mementos wero supplied to various school branches of the league in the Wellington- district.) Considerable inconvenience has been experienced by the Wellington branch of the Navy League owing' to' the non-arrival of the bronze badges ordered for the juvenile members late last year. A consignment of. 500 of the medals advised as sent four months ago is still astray, and in the meantime tho leugue is unable to supply its juvenile members. '
