WATCHING MOTOR SPEEDS.
HUTT ENGINEER'S REPORT. Motor speeds formed the subject of. a special paragraph in the report of the Hutt Borough engineer, submitted to tlio council last ovening. The report stated: "In accordance with instructions a list ot th© numbers of cars that exceeded the speed limit on the .Hutt Road on the days of- tho recent raccs at Trentham was sent to the police with the view of ascertaining the names find addresses of .the drivers and owners of the cars-. As some of these cars aro registered in remote parts of the Dominion tho police inquiries take some time, and it lias been .found, in somo cases/ impossible to>gct all th<s information necessary to notify an intention , to prosecute within the, time laid down by tho by-laws, viz., 21 days. If it were possible to amend the by-law I would suggest that this -time bo extended so as to give more time fo get the particulars necessary in full." * It was decided, in adopting tho report, to instruct the engineer to communicate ■pith the police immediately' after taking » number, and so save delay.
