GAPS IN STEAM SERVICES.
S.S. MANUKA WITHDRAWN. I Another Union Company steamer is to be withdrawn from the .Sydney-Cook Sti'ait-Melbourno service. This timo it is the Manuka, whioh left. Sydney for Wellington and southern ports at 1 p.m. on Saturday last. Tho vessel has 53 saloon and 37. steerage passengers on board for all ports, included in which aTO 14 1 saloon and 2.1 steerage for Wellington. Cargo, amounting to 522 tons, will also bo put out here. On arrival at Port Chalmers, tlio Manuka, will be laid up pro tem. . Her cargo will bo transhipped to tho collier Kaituna, 1 and talfeji on to the Bluff, Hobart, and Melbourne. The Kaituna' will leave the last-mentioned port for Hobart, the Bluff, Dunedin, and Wellington 011 August 26 in placo of the Manuka. A.few weeks-a™ the Union Company withdrew tho Willochra from tho samo | trade, and 110 boat rail from Sydney to Wellington 011 July 26. In consequence of this, the weekly sailing from Wellington to southern jwrt-s, Hobart, and MelIxmrno on July 31 was strnck out. The collier Waipori was commissioned to leave Melbourne last Saturday with cargo 'only for Ilolwrt, southern pArfe. and Wellington, in placo of tho Willochra. Tho "latter vessel was to have left Bunoilin 011 August-20 for. Sydney, via Cook Strait. She has been replaced by tho Warrimoo, which vessel will leavo Wellington for Sydney 011 August 22. On inquiries being made at; tho local office of the Union Qompanv' 4ast evening 110 announcement was forthcoming as to what vessel will replace tho Manuka in tho intercolonial servicb.
