AN UNJUST TAUNT.
MR.' ATKINSON AND BIBLE TEACHING IN WELLINGTON. Mr. J. G, W. Aitken writes:—"l notice Mat at the deputation against tho Bible in Stato schools, Mr. Atkinson stated tliat the children of Wellington do not receive -religious instruction as in Nelson becauso the parsons prefer a political agitation to get tho tcacliers to do the work they are permitted no« / to do themselves. Your readers will remember that I stated publicly in your columns finite recently that tho Wellington Education Board had refused to givo tho nccessary, permission- to the clergy of Wellington, so that tho fault doas not lie with tern. , I can only imagine, as Mr. Atkinson is>an honourable man,- that lie is unaware of this fact, and did not seo my letter in your columns; but it is extraordinary that 110 missed it also in tho columns of that daily paper which I suppose he reads religiously. Nothing could more forcibly indicate tho weakness of Sir. Atkinson's case than tliat he 6hould find it nccessary to make a statement so far removed from tho actual fact,"
