THISTLE ON TOP. . RESULTS OF GRADE GAMES. , Hospital 5 Swifts 1 Y.M.C.A 2 St. John's 2 Rovers 3 Brooklyn 2 Diamonds 8 Wanderers 1 Rungs in tlio grade ladder are now settled for ail teams, and tlio climbing or descent thereof, and tho incidental club strivings, are over for tho year. lho Thistle men liavo the top perch with nineteen points to their crcdit on tho roll of honour. For three years .this place has been filled by Hospital, but the sturdy Porirua people, have only managed to bo "second toppers" this time. They have ' seventeen point on. A drop of four.points marks the position of Diamonds, who are third, while Y.M.C.A. and Corinthians aro tightly squeezed fogether on tho fourth rung. Brooklyn occupies a modest ■ position at tho bottom. Of tho grade games on Saturday, Y.M.C.A. ana St. John's held sway at the Basin, and this ground was tho only one which drew anything in the' nature of a crowd. In tho Diamonds-Wanderers clash one player was ordered off the field for "behaviour." ST. JOHN'S & Y.M.C.A. From whistle to whistle this clash, was full of vim, and provided an interesting and at times exciting' spectacle. Both teams were evenly matched, and in tiptop form, thanks to their season's training. St. John's put on tho field ono of ■tyie best teams that they have had this . year, and this, combined with the welltrained units of the Y.M.C.A. team, gavo a really ablo demonstration of Associa--tion football. Carruthers played exceptionally well, and "got all over" liis'opposing man, Shaw, the representative player. Iloltis, in goal, was by no meaus up to his usual form, mulling several times, while even Parsons wa3 "off colour." Evidently they have not as yet recovered from the effects of last week's battle with Canterbury. Tho gamo opened with tho wind in St. John's favour, and with a rush that could not be denied they pot away. Trevethick secured, and passed to Bruce. Bruce shot, but tho. ball flew over tho bar-. Again they came down, and, this time, made no mistake, Morrison, on the inside-left, beating Hollis badly. Y.M.C.A. now took tho aggressive, and,' after some rather good combination on the part of Carruthers ami Phillips, the first-named scored with a low, long shot. Y.AI.C.A. 1, St. John's 1. The remainder of the first spell was notable for the vigour of both teams, ,but neither side succeeded in scoring. The second spell saw tho game livelier, if possible, than the first. From a line-out, Y.M.C.A. secured a corner-kick. Carruthers took tho kick and centred beautifully, but Roberts misjudged, and eent the ball on tho wrong side of tho post. From the goal-kick, Carruthers, I'ooto, and Baker got the ball among them and combined well. They came down the field in fiue style, but Dick, on the Tightwing, intercepted, and-passing to Shaw, a corner-Kick for St. John's, resulted. Y.M.C.A. came to the attack, and this time Phillips got the ball home. Y.M.C.A. 2, St. John's 1. .A free-kick was awarded St. John's soon after, but Gollis rose to tho occasion,, and saved. But St. John's were not to bo denied, and, coming on with a rush, the half-backs passed out to Morrison, who scored, with a fine, clean shot. Y.M.C.A. 2, St. John's 2. The following play was chiefly noticeable for tho number of . corner-kicks which Y.M.C.A. secured. Time, however, found' the scores unchanged. "Mr. Winley was .. iereree.

THISTLE CHAMPIONS. Thistle wero to haVo met Corinthians oil Saturday afternoon, but, owing to the latter club not putting in an appearance, won by default. Thistle therefore have .won tho 1913 championship. HOSPITAL & SWIFTS. It was anticipated that Swifts would give Hospital a hard task- on . Saturday afternoon, but the men from Porirua managed to defeat their opponents,by 5 goals to 1 I'rom start' tb -finish-pliiy'wa's of a lively character, Swifts showing some of their old dash of two or three years ago. Hospital, on the other hand, played up to form, and gave- a good exposition. During the first spell Vossey and Mathefon wero prominent' for Swifts, and this duo gave the Hospital men a lot of trouble. The home team were the first to score. Skinner received a nice centre from Elliott, and made no mistake. E. Guise, for Swifts, had several opportunities of putting his side ahead, but erratic shooting spoilt them. At half-time Hospital were one up. Tho second spoil had no sooner commenced than Matheso'n swung a beautiful centre across to Richards, and the - lastnamed landed a splendid goal, making the scores even. At this Hospital appeared to wako up, and some lively exchanges took place. E. Guise,- outside-left for the Reds, was always prominent, but Hospital proved too good for their opponents. Hughes (2) and Roots scored goals, while Skinner landed the ball in the net from a penalty given for hands. Mr. Lith-' gow was referee. '

BROOKLYN & ROVERS. Wakefield Park saw the clash between Brooklyn and Rovers. A fairly fast game was put up, both teams putting forth their best efforts to secure a win, and thus not bo tho lowest in the championship. Daley, on tho left-wing, drew first blood for the Rovers, securing a rather neat goal, while a few minutes Inter, Roberts, taking 's good pass from tho wing, scored also. Rovers 2, Brooklyn nil. A good opportunity of scoring another coal w»9 lost by Rcid. A penalty-kick had been awarded Rovers, and Reid, taking tho kick, misjudged, badly, the ball striking tho post and bounding behind. Early in tho second spell Brooklyn attacked with dash, and Hill scored with a low-lying shot. Rovers 2, Brooklyn 1. Brooklyn again came to the attack, but Berling intercepted, and, centring to Roberts, the last-named had no difficulty in scoring. Froi'n this on Brooklyn had the best of tho game, but only succeeded in, adding one other goal to that which they had already obtained, thus leaving tho Bcore: Rovers 3, Brooklyn 2. The referee'was Mr. H. S. Claughton.

DIAMONDS & WANDERERS. Tho Diamonds-Wanderers fixture at Kolburne Park was a "soft tiling" for tho former team. Both teams showed up well in tho first spell, but, in the second, tho Diamonds "walked over" their opponents. AV. O'Shea was ordered off the field for alleged remarks to the referee, and tho game , was otherwise remarkable for continual offsido play, and sundry breaches of tho rules. Ferguson opened up for tho Diamonds, securing a goal from a penalty- - kick awarded for "hands." From a general rough-and-tumble in front of Diamonds' goal, C. O'Shea (Wanderers) obi taincd tho ball, and smartly netted, but, almost immediately, Ferguson again placed Diamonds in tho lead. Diamonds 2, Wanderers 1. Soon after the commencement of the second spell Ferguson scored, ant!-.^ continuing rushing tactics with his forwards, soon scored again. N. Lowe and Edes wero successful in securing tho remaining goals, the gamo being too onesided to be interesting. Tho whistle found the scores: Diamonds 8, Wanderers 1. Mr. M'Lean was referee.
