AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION

TARANAKI MOVEMENT. The Taranaki Education Board is moving in the direction of securing the support of agriculturists in the ,territory covered by the board to guarantee part of tho oost for providing an instructor whoso • services will be at the disposal of farmers throughout the province. Mr. Gray, one of the board's officers, has been in attendance'at the annual meetings of shareholders of dairy factories in, order to secure their support. His representations have been favourably considered at several gatherings, and it seems likely that sufficient encouragement will be forthcoming to warrant the appointment and cover tho cost. The' duties of the instructor will be: (1) To hold classes at the different centres,, which would be open to farmers and factory managers and employees free of cost; (2) to bo at the service of farmers for information and' advice, verbally or by correspondence; (3) to give instruction in dairying and agriculture to teachers in the service of the Eduoation Board; (4) to supervise the work of agriculture and dairying in the schools. It is estimated that the cost will bo alxmt ■ .£3OO a year. The revenue will bo partly met by "making a chargo against contributing dairy companies of one shilling per ton on the butter and sixpence per ton on the cheese outputs. The sum thus raised, it is expected, will be subsidised at tho rate of for £by tho Education authorities. One necessary qualification of ths expert will be that he must have completed a thorough course of training; if possible a man from Ilawkesbury College will 1)0 secured.
