(From Our Special Correspondent.] 0. ; ' Tho Petone Borough Inspector (Mr. W. B. Gough), who has been very active during the epidemic, states that, after making upwards of five hundred inspections, lie had no hesitation, in saying that Petone is far more free from infectious diseases for this time of the year than it has been for a number of years. There netd be no anxiety on tho part of parents to send children to school. Councillor Anderson has given notice to more at the nest ordinary meeting of the 'Potono Council :—"Tha.t the cost of pro-, duction per 1000 c.f. of gas at tho Petone Gasworks be laid on the table for tho information of councillors." The Mayor of Petone has given notice of motion for nest counoil meeting as follows:—"That a committee consisting of Councillors Cox', List, Findlay, Trueman, and the Mayor be set up to inquire into and report upon: (a) The cost of gas manufactured at the Petono Gasworks; (b) the oost of distribution; (c) whether a reduction is possible either to wholesale or retail users.' Councillor Townsend hag given notice of motion to move at Monday night's meeting Of the Petone' Borough Council the following motion: . "That this council protest against Clause 5 of- the Bill to amend the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, being placed upon' the Statute Book, as we consider it a retrogrado step, inasmuoh as it takes from the electors .their right to elect their mayor, and places Such power in the hands of tho council, also, we ate of opinion that it would be advantageous to revert to the old system of electing councillors, whereby. three members of tho council retired annually, and that a copy of the foregoing resolution be forwarded to tho) Prime Minister and tho member for tho district."
