CARNIVAL AND BALL AT VICTORIA. By Telegraph—Prcso Association—Copyright Victoria (8.C.), August 7. Tho carnival sports were continued, the battleship New Zealand's men taking a_ prominent ■ part. A brilliant ball was given in honour of Captain Halsey and his officers in the evening. The Premier (Sir Richard M'Bride), tho Lieutenant-Governor, and Rear-Admiral Reynolds, commanding tho American- Squadron in port, were present. At tho naval regatta, tho American sailors beat tho battleship New Zealand's men in the prircipal regatta events.
