MAGISTRATE'S COURT CASES.
THE INTRUDER. Mr. W. 6. Riddel], S.M., was engaged ■on the Bench at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. The principal case was one , in which Charles, F. Warren was fined 20s.- for assaulting- "William Hobbs, "Willis Street, in whoso bedroom he was found, whilo drunk, for which offence an additional fino* of 10s. was imposed. It appeared that defendant walked into Mr. Hobbs's houso under the belief that ho was going into his .hotel, and when the owner asked him to go downstairs | Je struck him violently in the face. EMPLOYEES' TIME RECORD. William Young pleaded guilty to a of dausing his employees to work more hours than specified, and failing to notify the Inspector of Awards. Mr. Hindmarsh, in defence, said that defendant left his book-keeping to his wife, who did not understand tho position in this respect. Somo women employees had worked more than 52 hours per week, but Mrs. Young 4'd not know that she ought to ,have reported it, whilst, in other instances, tho men had worked very much under tho time. His Worship remarked that defendant must instruct his wife on such details if ho threw the onus upon her. no was liable, and would be fined 10s., and 7s. costs. • STONED'THE HOUSE. Edward Strom, charged with drunkenness, and with damaging a, pane of glass to the valuo of 7s. 6d., the property of Charles Richardson, was convicted, but discharged on the first charge and was fined 10a., '4s.' costs, and '7s; Gd. damago on tho second. It was stated that defendant was pelting the house with stones, and caused great annoyiinco from four o'olock until lie was arrested at 6.30. OTHER COURT CASES. Harry Somes, carter, employed by the Union Company, charged .with carnal knowledge, was remanded until Wednesday, being allowed bail on his own recognisance of and two sureties of ■CIO each. Ho was represented by Mr. T. Wilford. « ; Henry Da vies, Thorndon Quay, was fined -7v. for allowing his chimney to bo on fii'o on July 27. ,1 charge against Stanley Jolm I'riis of failing to render personal service was adjourned for a week, as ho was applying for exemption. Thomas Hitchcock was fined lis. for allowing a horse to stray. Patrick Cavanaglt was fined 20s. in respect of a bull.' though he was successful in getting a dismissal in respect of eight cows. Andrew Anderson was fined 10s.. and 7s. costs, in respect of a cow.
