LAND VALUES.
ASSESSMENTS OBJECTED TO. " Objections to Government valuations wero heard by the Assessment Court yesterday. Dr. A. M'Arthur, S.M., presided, and sitting with him as assessors were Messrs. J. G. W. Aitken and A. A. Gcllatly. The. Valuation Department i\-as represented by Mr. •]?. N. Martin. Objectors from Island Bay and Ohiro Road did not appear in support of their objections. Several property-owners in Goldie's Brae, Wadestown, objected to tho unimproved value at which their sections were assessed. Mr. T. Neavo- appeared for them. In tho case of H. Bull's property a Toduction was mado from ,£390 to ,£350, but tho capital value of ,£llsO was sustained. Both unimproved and capital values wero sustained in the cases of C. W. Palmer, J. P. Blacklock,' and Jolui Souper. Mr. F. P. Newman, on behalf of the owners of tho Rhodes Estate, accepted the- valuations of Sections 1 to 12, but offered tho remainder to the Department at valuation.. . ■ Mr. Martin pointed out that the estate of eighty-one acres had been valued as a whole, and the Department could not accept the offer in thoso terms. Dr. M'Arthur said that for obvious reasons tho Court. oould not agree to, tho offer being made in tho form suggested. Mr. Newman: In that case, wo must offer tho estate as a whole. A value of ,£275 had been placed upon Isabella Smyth's section at Highland Park, Wadestown. This was objected to, and the Court mado a reduction to .£250. [ Mr. Selwyn King asked for a reduction in the valuation placed upon his section in the Ohiro Portion, of ICelburne. The Court decided that tho value should bo reduced to the owner's estimate.
