WHO IS JUDGE OF FACT? The Management Committee of tho Wellington Rugby Union met last night. Mr. E. 0. Hales presided. Mr. W. J. Meredith, who controlled the St. James-Wellington match last Saturday, wrote stating that he had ordered off A. Donaldson (St. James) and N. v Irons (Wellington). Mr. Meredith ai- ; tended tho meeting, and said that' Don- : aldson got Irons by tho throat, whereupon Irons closed with him, and they commenced ragging. As it appeared that blows were about to bo struck, he ordered • tho pair off. Irons acted under great provocation, and tried to defend himself. The .gaino was anything but satisfactory to control. Several men were cautioned for questioning decisions, and the contest had a tendency to develop into a rough match. It was a long time since he had heard such filthy language as camo from members of the St. James team. Howover, lis could not lay hands upon these players. Donaldson and Irons went before tho committee and stated that nothing wrong had occurred. Jfr. D. Weir said that he had a good view of tho incident, and that nothing untoward 'happened. Mr. A. C. Kitto airreed with Mr. Weir, nnd added that ho did not hear any bad language. M/r. Hales: Yes, but you wero not as close to the players as the referee was. It was decided that Donaldson should bo cautioned, and that no action should be taken in the enso of Irons.
