One of Helensville'9 pioneer settlers, and one of the best-known master mariners in tho Ivaipara, died rceently in tho person of Captain llcnry Joseph Stauaway (writes a correspondent of tho Auckland "Star"). Tho deceased had been ailing for some time past, and died as tho result of pleurisy and a weak heart. Since a boy of 16 he lias almost entirely followed a seafaring lifo in' the Kaipara Harbour. In tho early days ho used to pilot vessels to the Wuiron and Helensville, and afterwards carried the mails between Dargnville and Holonsvillo with a small cutter. In later years lie captained many of tlio steamers, and was a thoroughly-trusted navigator, his knowledge of "the Kaipara Harbour and its channels being very complete. The deceased was in his GMh year, and leaves live sons (nil married) and threo- daughters (two married). He was for ninny years a member of tho Town Board.
