August 5, 8.55 p.m.)' At tho continuation of the horse sales, the prices for Clydesdales slumped, owing to heavy supplies. Excellent colts sold at from GO t0.70 'guineas. T'he New Zealand Laird of Craigicbnrn, a five-year-old, and the winner of the 100guinea premium, was bought' for -375 guineas by Mr. W. 11. Tubman, of: Belfast, Christchurch. ". Five horses sold on account of Messrs. Mitchell and O'Brien, of- Oaniaru, 6old at from 00 to 147.1 guineas; two on account of Mr. P. M'Naughton, of New Zealand, fetched 50 and 5!) guineas; three on account of Messrs. Freeman' Bros., of Waimate, from 01 to 105 guineas; two on account of Mr. D. J. Mitchell, of New Zealand, 00 and 107 guineas; three on account of Mr. .Tames E. Small, of Tinwald, from 58 to 07i guineas; and one on account of Mr. W. ll.' Tubman, 55 guineas.. Notice was given in the House of Representatives yesterday by Mr. L. M. Isitt to ask tho Minister for Agriculture whether bis attention has been directed to the alleged abuse of milking machines and consequent deterioration in New Zealand butter, also the serious menace to health that may be involved through pollution of milk; and whether the Ministor will inquire as to tho measure of inspection now practised.
