REVIVAL OF THE GREAT, WYRLEY , OUTRAGES. , . By Telcerapht-PreßS Association—Copyright London, August 4. The Gwat Wyrley gang lias recommenccd operations. A pony was maimed in the Wednesbury district. A postcard, with a threat, was received at Wolverhampton prior, to the outrage.
The recurrence of,the GreatWyrley outrages revives interest in the celebrated oase of Edalji, who, in 1903, was sentenced to seven years'imprisonment for maiming cattle at Great'Wyrley. There had been many cases, and for some, time the police were at sea. After Edalji's sentence there were one or two more maiming cases. In 1909, as the result of tho report of a Commission held to inquire :into the case, the noma Secretary advised the King to grant Edalji a free pardon without compensation. The case raised a great stir at the time, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of "Sherlock Holmes," contributed to the controversy .over Edalji's innocence a'closely reasoned defence of the accused man.
