The Rev. J. C. Fitzgerald anil the Rev. T. Hera, the two members of tho Community o ftho Resurrection at Mirfield, who took part in the great Anglican Mission of 11110, are paying a return visit to the Dominion in September, October, and November, 'l'hcir visit is of _ course not for the purpose of holding missions, but: to visit the parishes where worked during the mission, and to hold retreats for the clergy in diflerent parts of the Dominion, ill*. Ikes will visit Palmerston-North, and Mr. iitzgerald will bo in 'Wellington and will coniino his attention to St. Paul's and St. Peters parishes. His visit is to'bo during tho . lirst ton days of November. The funeral IT. Pope, formerly Chief Inspector of Native Schools, which took place yesterday alter; noon, was largely attended by friends, including R largo number of members oi tlio Civil Service. In accordance with the wishes of tho deceased, tlio bod} was cremated. Among tho wreaths .was. one very beautiful ono forwarded by the Old Bovs' Association of the ■ Otago High School, of which Mr. Pope was at olio time principal assistant and acting rector. Tho pall-bearers were tho six sons of tho deceased gentleman. The servics at tio graveside was conducted by the Kin. IJi. Gibb, assisted by the Kev. Jas. laterson. Tho Gisborno Borough Council last night decided to.temporarily appoint Mr. W. J. Mansfield, of Auckland, as engineer to the.borough, such appointment to date from now till tho end of December. Press Association. Mr. P. 13akev, assistant district land registrar at Dunedin, was tho recipient on Thursday of a presentation from the legal profession on his retirement after •10 years' service. The souvenir took tho form of an antique jwwter tea service, and in making tho presentation Mr. Donald Keid referred to the fact that Mr. Baker had served for nearly twenty years in the local Lands and Deeds Department, and expressed tho appreciation of tho legal profession of the care and courtesy extended to them by the recipient in all matters relating to his Department. Mr. Justice Cooper proceeds to Auckland to-morrow. News has been received that Dr. A. B, Danby (son of Mr. A. A. S. Dauby) has been appointed an assistant house surgeon ' at Guy's Hospital, London. Mrs Rhodes, wife of Mr. W. 15. Rhodes, of the Land, and Incomo Tax Department, and third daughter of the late Mr. W. 11. Holmes (for many years master of tho To Aro School), died at lier residence, Main • Street, yesterday morning, after a rather prolonged illness. The immediate cause of death was heart failure. Mrs. Rhodes was actively associated with the work of St. Thomas s Church, and was most charitnblv disposed. Iler only son is Mr. u. 1. Rhodes, of Messrs. Bing, Harris, and Co.'s staff. Amongst tlio apologies for alxscnoo read at tho jubilee gathering of the Otago Boys' High School at Dunedin on Saturday, was one from Mr. F. S. Pope, Secretary of tlio Department of Agriculture, who was unable to leave Wellington owing to (lie then critical condition of his late father. , Mr H Wells, organist of tlio Taranaki Street Methodist Church,- has resigned that position to take up similar duties at the Memorial Church, Glenuiark, Canterbury.
