HOCKEY.
CHANCES OF ENGLISH VISIT. THE FINANCE OF IT. Tho Management Committee of the Wellington Hockey Association met last evening, Air. A. W. Manning'being in the chair. A communication was received from tho secretary of the New Zealand Hockey Association, with regard to the proposed Now Zealand tour of a representative English hockey team. Tho letter stated that Mr. Eliot Davis (vice-president of tho Aucklaud Association), who is at present on a visit to England, had been authorised to inquire into the prospects of a British hockey team visiting the Dominion. Information had been received to the effect that the English Association was ill favour of sending a team to New Zealand providing that all expenses in excess of .£SO per man (for fifteen players) were paid by the New Zealand Association. The committee of the New Zealand As.sociation sent the following rfpjy —"Provided that a thoroughly representative team will tour tho Dominion for six weeks and play 12 matches, the New Zealand Hockey Association will.guarantee train and steamer fares, and actual board whilst in New Zealand." As a prompt answer to Mr. Davis was necessary, the committee of tho head association took tho responsibility of replying as above. Should tho English Association acccpt the conditions it is proposed to play tho following matches:—Auckland, at Auckand; 'Tarauaki 'and Wahganui, at Wsnganui; Manawatu, Horowhenua, and Wairarapa, at Palmerston North; Hawko's Bay and' Poverty Bay, at Napier; Wellington, at Wellington; Otago, at Dunedin; Southland, at Invercargill; Marlborough and Nelson, at Nelson; West Coast and Buller, at Greymouth; North Island, at Auckland; South Island, at Christchurch; New Zealand, at Wellington. The local committee discussed tho contents of the letter, and approved of the proposal. The matter of a guarantee, was held over for consideration. It was mentioned that' the Southland Association's representatives who -are to play "Wellington 011 Saturday afternoon next for the New Zealand Hockey Association's Challenge Shield, will arrive in Wellington on Friday morning next. The personnel of the team is as follows:—C. Ive, W. Sampson, J. Henderson, S. Richards, L. Paull, 11. M'Lean, F. Smith, C. G. Lewis, J. Davies, A. Galbraith, D. Strang; emergencies, If. Richards and C. White. In reply to a letter from the Canterbury Association, it was decided to arrange for a match with their representatives at 0 convenient date. It was decided to arrange for a match with Otago representatives on Karori Park on August 30. MID-WEEK AND HOROWHENUA. It has now been decided that the hockey match between the Wednesday representatives and Horowhenua will commence at 2 p.m. to-morrow. The association tixed this hour because the Horowhenua men have to return home at 4.15 p.m. A special train will leave Courtenay Place for Karori at 1.20 p.m. Tho visitors will be entertained at luncheon at tho Burlington tea rooms at 12.30 p.m.
