AUSTRALIAN HORSE MARKET.
UNFAVO CRADLE REPORTS. , The Australian market for New Zealand draught horses does not seem to be at all .inviting just now. Three Southland dealers—Messrs. J. Youiug, John Grant, and G. Lawson—who took consignments to the recent-Jlelbourno sales, report tlint things havo fallen very flat over there this sea--8011. In conversation with a reporter, it was stated that where horses were not being Actually .returned, they had been disposed of at prices that were not.at all, commertsurato with their value. Mr. i;oung"brought one of his horses back to New Zealand. Mr. Grant said that prices were fjllly 50. per cent, lower than they were last y;nr, and the 1912 season was far from being satisfactory. Previous to going to Australia 'he was sanguine that he' would have secured, figures double what actually came his way, but as things'turned out horses could hardly be given away. This statement was endorsed by 'Mr. lawson, who considers that New Zealand, horses have had a fag set-back. The tightness of tho Commonwealth money lnaTkot appears to be -the primary causo of such a big and unexpected fail in. the price of horseflesh across the Tasman Soa.
