TUESDAY. Vegetable Soup. Savoury Tripe. Potatoes. Stewed (,'olery. l'ig Pudding. SAVOURY TRIPE. One pound and half tripe, verv small piece t>f garlic (if likod), Jib. bacon, U carrots, 1 turnip, 1 onion, 1 pint stock, salt and cayenne to taste. Wash and bliuich the tripe while hot, rub it all over with the garlic; cut into pieces about two inches square. Prepare the vegetables, cut them into small dice, chop the bacon finely, heat a_ largo pic-dish, rub all over with garlic, arrange slices of t.ripe, vegetables, anil bacon, and a very little salt; add the stock, cover with greased paper, and bake in a very moderate oven 25 hours. A Golden Wedding. lilr. and Mrs. Townley (Gisborne) Trent to Napier last week to celebrate the golden -wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Large. Mr. Townley and Mr. Large were tices together in Manchester, England, as far back as the year 1855. Both emigrated to New Zealand within a few years of each other, and 'were associated together as partners in business for many years in Jtopier and Gisborne. Mr. anil Mrs. Large a few months ago came up from Napier and attended tho golden wedding of Mr. aud Mrs. Townley. Marriage in St. Peter's. Tho marriage took place in St. Peter's Church on Saturday afternoon of Miss tizzio Mooro to Mr. Alfred Mercer. The bride, who had been for some time resident at tho Y.W.C.A., wasl attended by Miss Florence Mooro and Miss Lilian Bailey. ■ Mr. Alfred Lyther was best man, and Miss Dunlop gave the bride away.. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at tea at the Y.W.C.A. Hostel, and warm appreciation was expressed bv the brido and bridegroom and friends of tho hospitality extended >to them by the association. Wedding at Wanganui. Tho marriage took placo at the residence of the bride's parents, 'Wickstend Street, Wanganui, on Thursday, of Miss Madeline Ford, daughter-of Mr. J. Ford, and Mr. Joseph Barney. Miss Freda Ford attended lier sister as bridesmaid, and Mr. Chester Holland was the best man. Tho. bridegroom's present to tho bride was a set of furs, and to the bridegroom Jwas given a set of gold sleeve links. The bridesmaid received a gold brooch. After the wedding many guests were entertained by tho bride's parents, and later Mr. and Mrs. Barney left for New Plymouth and the north. Wedding at Ormond Tho marriage, took placo in the Soman Catholic • Church, Ormond, of Miss Kathleen O'Grady, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. O'Brady, of Mangapaap, and Mr. C. Jen9on,' of Matawhero. Tho lit v. Father Finn performed the ceremony. Miss Maude O'Grady was, tho bridesmaid, and Mr. W. Ashdown was the best man. Ik - . Dennis O'Grady gavo his sis"ter away. ' After ceremony the bridal party and guests were entertained at a wedding breakfast at tho residence of- tho bride's brother at Waerenga-a-hika, and latetr the bride and bridegroom left for tho south.
Her Excellenoy the Countess of Liverpool will bo present at the concert which local musical people have organised for Mr. Herbert lfloy this evening. It will take place in the Town Hall. The monthly meeting of the Waikonae branch of the Women s Political Reform League will be held this .evening in the old echoolhouse, Waikanae. A paper will bo by one of the members, entitled Should women compete with men in public life?" Dr. Webb and lira. Webb returned to Martinborough on Saturday. Dr. Webb has just returned from a visit to England, and Mrs. Webb went to Wellington to meet her husband. . Mrs. Blundell (Carterton) has.been paying a brief visit to Wellington. Mrs. Gawith returned to Masterton on Saturday from o brief visit to Wellington. Miss Gawith visits Ohau and Woodville boforo returning to her home. j The sudden death occurred on Friday evening at Martinborough of Mrs. Scott, aged 75. Deceased! vnas the relict of the late Dr. Charles Scott, who, for many years, practised in I'icton, where deceased was very well known. Archdeacon and Mrs. Tisdall (of the Waikato) were passengers by the Niagara, which arrived in Auckland on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Gillies, of Hamilton, also returned to New Zealand by the same steamor. Mr. and Mrs. Hannan were passengers for Blenheim yesterday by the Pateena. Miss Barker is spending two or three weeks in South Canterbury. Mrs. Cutlibertson will spend some days in Christchurch, tho guest of Mrs. Denniston, before returning to Invcrcargill. Mrs. Bothamley (Hamilton) is the guest of Miss Macandrew, on The Terrace, and her daughter, Mi's. English, is staying with relatives in Wellington. Miss Anderson Hughes, after an interesting and. extensive tour of Canada and the United States, has now made her home in England for the present. She was married on. July 2D. in tho Baptist Church at Evesham, and- her home will bo at Southampton. She is hoping to attend the World's Triennial Convention of tho W.C.T.U.,. at Brooklyn, New York, in October next, when sho will represent New Zealand. An enjoyable children's party was given on Saturday at the eastern side of tho harbour by Miss Simpson, Day's Bay, to her ward, Miss Violet ICinga'n, and a number of girl friends. Music and games were entered into with merriment by tho children, and leave-taking time came nil too soon.. Items were contributed by Misses Bell Chittey, Norma Cook, Fay Nicol, Edna Ross, Maudio Wise, and Master Stanley Palmer, and competitions were won by Miss Nora Nicol and Miss Bell Chittey. Mrs. Eolleston advises lady readers to save every strand of their combings. She has a special and uniquo process for making up of combings in various modes and designs.*
