ILL-FORTUNE OF KARORI. Jollego 4 Ivnrori 3 United C Wellington 2 Metropolitan 2 Insurance 2 The cold, bleak wind hat accompanied matches at Karori on Saturday made tho lot of player and spectator alike not an enviable one. Tho Karori-Victoriu College encounter was the only game that showed signs of life, tho others, on the whole, being of little interest. Karori wero unfortunate in losing their match. Their efforts were well deserving of a win. They made mistakes—so did tho students. 'The latter's forwards had a pronounced tendency to wander in forbidden territory at the wrong time, but this offside play managed to escape the watchful eye of the referee. However, tha game was evenly contested, and tho College men were lucky—very lucky—in winning by the narrow margin of one goal. VICTORIA COLLEGE & KARORI. The College team immediately settled down to business, working at high pressure, and causing the Karori men somo uneasiness. G. and C. Struck in the first few minutes went closo to registering a score. The Black forwards, however, warmed up, and set a solid pace which placed tho Greens on the alert. Bv a smart piece of play the Blacks worked into the circle, where Davies shot what looked like a certain goal. Tho referee, however, disallowed tho score. College set to work once more, only to run up against Campbell and Duncan, who frustrated their opponents' plans, at least for tho time being. Karori continued to have tho best say in the argument. Their forwards broke clear, a splendid run ensued, Davies, Brooker, and Murphy being mainly responsible. They wero successful in passing tho Green backs, Brooker finally working the ofacle, and scoring tho first goal. From tho ensuing "bully" Collego secured. Then followed a run down field, G. Strack keeping tho ball nearly all tho way, till the circle was reached. Here Cleghorn sent in a hot shot, which was stopped by Williams. For a while play was in tho region of the net, until tho Greens once more were put to flight. Their opponents then took a hand in matters, and Henderson ultimately notched Karori's second goal. Soon after the start of tho second spell, Gleghorn turned a comer-hit into account, and notched College's first goal. This had an enlivening effect on the Greens, and they resolutely went about their work. As a result, G. Strack made a bolt down field, worked his way past everybody, and scored the prettiest goal of tho day. Karori received much encouragement from tho line. Going to the attack again, Davies found tho net— Karori's third goal. In tho last few minutes the students gave an exhibition of what they can do when the odds are against them, G. and K. Strack putting on two goals in rapid succession, the result of meritorious work. Tho gauio ended: Victoria College, 4; Karori, 3. Mr. Organ was the referee. UNITED V. WELLINGTON. This match was of a very poor order, clever runs and good play being conspicuously absent. In tiio first spell, Wellington hold a slight advantage, Paul scoring tho first and only goal of the spell. In tho second half, United emerged from their slumbers, and strolled all over their opponents' territory. After a brief inspection, they put on six goals —Boyd 4 and Andrews 2. Paul lodged Wellington's second goal. Mr. Austin was the refereo. GOVT. LIFE & METROPOLITAN. Tho fortnight's absonco from tho "paddock" seemed to have a bad effect on tho participants ill this match. Both sides started "groggy," and tl.o pace and play throughout was not 'ip to senior grade. Metropolitan had tho Blues on tho defence in tho first twenty minutes, tho Red forwards keeping them busy. Cleave (in-goal) upheld his reputation, stopping a lively shot from M'Gregor. A little later, however, Keys successfully got passed liini, scori'ig tha Rods first goal. Government Life did not expect this, ami at once turned the talbes, Jackson equalising the score after a run downfield. Early in tlie second spell Cleave was again called on to save. He was successful, and play 'moved to tho other quarters of tho field, where 51 Clintock notched the second goal for the 'policy team. Attack and dcfence of a mild order characterised the remainder ot the second spell. The Reds managed to elude tho Blue backs, and M'Gregor brought the Reds' score up to the level ot the Blues, both teams leaving v.ith two goals each. Mr. Manning was the referee. REPRESENTATIVE TEAM.
