INFERNO OF NOISES.
PARIS STREETS TO BE MADE QUIETER.
By TelojraDh—Prtaa Association ~ooorri2hl (Sydney "Sun" Special—Aug. 2, G. 20 p.m.) Paris, August 2. The Prefect of Police has embarked 'upon a. campaign against street noises, which are "murdering sleep," he says. "Heavy motor-drays, loaded with stones or pig-iron, and shaking the foundations of the houses, must have rubber tyres to reduce vibration, and must not exceed 7J miles an hour. This juggernaut of tramways, rattling of motor-omnibuses, screeching of sirens, and cracking of cabmen's whips, and the hideous whistles of engines, have converted the city into an inferno."
