EXIT "BUFFALO BILL."
FAMOUS SHOWMAN RETIRES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Sydney "Sun" Special.) London, July 31. ' "Buffalo Bill" (Colonel Cody), for fortyone years a showman, is retiring to his ranch at Wyoming. His business is in the hands of. a receiver.
■William Frederick Cody, Indian scout and showman, was bom in 181 G. His father wag killed in tho "Bordei 'War" in Kansas. In 1860-G1 Cody was a pony express rider, and from 18G1 a Government Scout and guide, and a member of the 7th Kansas Cavalry. Later, ho contracted to furnish the Kansas Pacifio Railway with all the buffalo meat required to, feed the labourers engaged in construction, and in. eighteen months killed 4250 buffaloes, earning tha name of "Buffalo Bill," by which ho is best known. Afterwards ho returned to scouting, and served in tho operations against tho Sioux and Cheyenne. In the battle of Indiana. Creek ho killed Yellow Hand, tho Cheyenne chief, in a hand-to-hand fight. Colonel Cody participated in moro Indian battles than any other living man. Sinco 1883 ho lias been at tho head of "The Wild AVest Show."
