AN INTERESTING RETURN,
A return relating to the wording of thfii Stato Advances Department was presented lo the House of Representatives ye.'terday by the Minister in charge of the Department (the Hon. .1. Allen). The return was furnished uu the motion of Mr. G. \Yitty. The number of applications for loans under the Advances to Settlers Act from July 11, 1012, to .Tunc 3(1, 1t)13, was 3055, aiid the total Amount for was X1,011,50"i. The number to whom loans were authorised for the same jieriod was 2022, and the lotnl amount authorised wag ■ CGflti.Wlt. The total number asked for under the Advances to Workers Act from ,111110 30, 1012, lo July 1, i:il3, was 1549, and the amount nsked for .C'.iL'i.OO.h The total number and the amount authori-ei', in the above period were respectively 1112 and .):33(>.3in. The number who have obtained not less than .fiflO each under tho Advances to \\ orkers Act for the above period was 241.
