WORK AHEAD. Under the agreement with tho Wellington Steam Ferry Company, tho Eastbourno Borough Council has to take over tho harbour steamers Duchess and Cobar on September 1, which leaves tho Borough Council just four weeks to raiso the necessary loan and mako all preparations for engaging in a business entirely new to those concerned. Tho members o£ the council are, however, hopeful that everything will be in Teadincss when the time arrives to complete tho municipals sation of the trans-harbour ferry service. Matters concerning ways and means of raising tho «C15,00(1 loan are now occupying the attention of the Mayor and council, and a little later they will have to set up a Ferry Board from amongst themselves and appoint a general manager of the ferry business. All interested aro confident that the borough has made a pood deal over tho boats, and is acting wisely in taking over the service.
