The death occurred yesterday at the Wellington Public Hospital of Mr. Peter CUtfhorn Jackson. On tho afternoon of Only 14, Mr. Jackson was working on the railway line near Paekakariki, and when endeavouring to raise the wheels of an engine with a jack the appliance gave way, ami Jackson, it is sriict. was struck bv'portion of tho engine, both of his tiiigiis bsing fractured. Jlr. Jackson was a married man, 31 years of age, and is the son of Jlr. and Mrs. George Finlay Jackson, of Dunedin. ■Jlr. I'. G. Twiss's appointment as clerk in charge, Cook and other Islands Administration, is gazetted this week.
